Patricia Ellen Shively Foley

After a life well lived, Patricia Ellen Shively Foley died March 14, 2018, in the comforting presence of family and friends.

Pat was born July 13, 1953 in Northampton County on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She spent her early years enjoying the sun, sand, and ocean breezes. Her enduring love of the best and passion for beach combing grew deeply in her soul. Pat also spent part of her childhood and young adulthood in Tampa, Florida, until a job opportunity at Shore Memorial Hospital as a cardiac tech brought her back to Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

Later, when Pat found herself caring for two young children, she accepted a position at Williamsburg Community Hospital (now known as Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center). Little did she realize that she had found her professional home, where she touched many, many lives with joy, love, inspiration, and hope. Pat retired in 2008 after 23 years of service as a cardiac tech. She then embraced the opportunity to focus on her family and friends.

Known for her irrepressible sense of humor, Pat had found new uses for clown noses and soap bubbles with her children and grandchildren. An avid crafter, she loved to knit and crochet and found happy young heads and necks to cover. Pat readily shared her creations with those she loved as well as those in need. She also loved to journal and read and shared her books with any in need of a good story. Pat now laughs and sings in the company of angels. Well-loved and not forgotten, we shall meet again.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Meghan Brown; son, Donald Lee Brown; and her grandsons, D.J. Brown (age 9) and Jacob Brown (age 7).

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, May 6, 2018, 3 p.m. at Yorktown Beach. In lieu of flowers, Pat requested that charitable gifts be given to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Cardiopulmonary (Cardiac) Services, 100 Sentara Circle, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (www.tfaforms.com/385416).
