Richard Allen Davis

Richard Allen Davis, 71, of Quinton, Virginia, passed away on Mar. 23, 2017.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Elizabeth L. Toler; beloved daughter, Hannah M. Davis; brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey F. and Donna Davis, of Peoria, Arizona; aunt, Iris A. Timmerman and her daughter, Luika Timmerman, of Walnut Creek, California.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Allen Trudel; and father, Alton K. Davis.

Rick was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved with his family to Richmond. He attended Henrico County schools and graduated from Douglas Freeman High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Virginia in 1969 and a Masters of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1981.

His career in public finance included positions with the city of Richmond, the Virginia House Appropriations Committee, VCU, the Virginia Department of Highways, and the Virginia Department of the Treasury. Rick also worked as Senior Planning Analyst at Babcock and Wilcox, assistant Executive Director of McGuire Clinic Inc., and health care manager at PruCare of New York.

In his own quiet and unassuming way, Rick was a master of motion. He loved flying airplanes, riding steam trains, racing motorcycles and building and racing his beautiful Ford Cobra at Summit Point and VIR. He sailed the Chesapeake Bay on his Hampton and Catalina and he loved windsurfing the waters off the Outer Banks and Aruba. Early in retirement, Rick faced the challenges of MS with amazing courage and dignity.

His greatest joy was becoming a father. His family will cherish all that he was and all that he stood for in a remarkable lifetime.
