Richard Earl Potter

Richard Earl Potter, 79, of Lanexa, Virginia, passed away on July 9, 2025.

Richard is the son of Charles Civial Potter and Ione Potter. He went to New Kent High School until the seventh grade and then transferred to Christchurch School in Urbanna, Virginia, where he graduated. Richard graduated from Hampden-Sydney College and served as in the Military Police in the United States Army, obtaining the rank as a E5 Sergeant. He would work at New Kent High School as a teacher, the Ford Motor Company for 22 years, and later as a security guard at Dewitt Wallace Museum in Williamsburg, Virginia, for 17 years. Richard was a true southern gentlemen, history lover, and a passionate animal lover.

Richard is survived by his wife, Brigitte Potter; sister, Sharon Fowlkes; niece, Kelly Ruger; nephew, George Fowlkes and wife Kerry; grandchildren, Josh and Jennifer Fowlkes; step-children, Susan and Tom Muza, Glenda Osby, and Lori and Warren White; his beloved cat, Fang; and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, 11650 New Kent Highway, New Kent, Virginia 23124. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or to the Humane Society.
