Robert D. Kardian

Robert D. Kardian (Bob), 69, passed to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 12, 2018. He resided in Providence Forge, VA, for the past 13 years.

Bob was born on Feb. 6, 1949 in Richmond, VA. He attended Benedictine High School in Richmond and Virginia Military Institute via a basketball scholarship. Bob joined the U.S. Army in 1969 and was stationed in Germany where he carried atomic warheads while protecting the German borders. Upon returning home, he began working at Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) while taking classes at Virginia Commonwealth University. Bob earned a degree in business science and continued his career working in VDOT in various positions including program manager of maintenance operations, special students, and emergence services. He retired from VDOT after 42 years from service.

Bob loved his family and church. He enjoyed reading, watching the latest films, and learning about history, especially his own family genealogy. During retirement, Bob served his church as Historian and the leader of the Young and Heart Seniors, as well as making sure family, friends, and church members received personal, inspirational, and special occasion cards as he assisted families in need.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank A. and Lois Lang Karidan; and nephews, Sean Swecker and baby Allen Needham.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Rea Kardian; son, Stuart R. Kardian (Katherine Brandtjen); daughter, Stacey K. Brooks (Allen Brooks); siblings, Joseph G. Kardian (Carole), Frank A. Kardian (Barbara C.), Jean K. Wells (Larry); loving in-laws Charlotte and Horace Needham, Sondra and Harry Morgan, and Sonny and Susan Rea; as well as many wonderful cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Special thanks and blessings to family members Susan M. Rea, RN and Carrie M. Cobbs, RN, for their loving care and support during Bobs’ final days. Hospice of Virginia also supported Boby’s last days.

A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, 10 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, New Kent. Burial took place at Westhampton Memorial Cemetery, Henrico, VA.
