Sherry B. Tyler

Sherry Marcine Brown was born on Aug. 26, 1939, in Pennsylvania. She lived in the small town of Greencastle until her early teens, when her family sold the Greencastle Sanitary Dairy and moved to Clearwater Island, Florida.

After high school at the beach, Sherry attended Florida State University, earning a master’s degree in speech therapy. While enrolled she practiced synchronized swimming and later appeared (underwater) in an Ester Williams movie.

Sherry married George Keesee Tyler, who moved from Charles City, Virginia, to Florida with his friends, Charles Haupt and Ty Lovern. Sherry and George had two children, Barbara and Robert. They moved to Virginia in the late 1960’s.

Sherry was a very devoted and loving mother, active in the PTA, and supported her children in every way. She was a painter, calligrapher, and genealogist. Sherry volunteered with the Charles City Center for Local History for many years and wrote “80% Heaven Bond, Deaths and Burials in Charles City County.”

She suffered greatly the early death of her beloved daughter, Barbara. Sherry’s response to her own cancer diagnosis was, “Well, you have to die of something.”

Sherry is survived by her husband, George; her sister, Billie; her son, Robert; her daughter-in-law, Blanca; her grandchildren, Portia, Anne, and William; and many nieces and nephews.
