Maidens man gets year in jail for driving while intoxicated in New Kent
A Maidens man will spend a year in jail for driving while intoxicated in New Kent County. Christopher Tyrone Carroll, 56, of the 2500 block of Fairground Road, entered guilty pleas to an amended charge of misdemeanor DWI-second offense (originally DWI-third offense), misdemeanor driving revoked (DWI related), misdemeanor driving suspended, and misdemeanor driving without an ignition interlock as part of Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Johnson named to President’s List at James Madison University
Hannah Johnson of Providence Forge has been named to the President’s List at James Madison University for the Summer 2026 semester. To be recognized for the honor, a student must be taking at least 12 credit hours and accumulate a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.

Charles City School Board Member Royce Paige succumbs
A Charles City School Board member who served more than two decades in the position during two different stints has passed away. Royce Paige, 82, who was serving as an at-large member on the school board, passed away last week according to a press release from Charles City County’s School Board. Paige served 23 years as a member on Charles City’s School Board, covering two stints. Paige was first elected in 1995 to represent District 1 where he served for 16 years until 2011. Trojan turnovers costly as Poquoson shuts out New Kent 13-0
Costly mistakes by New Kent’s offense resulted in the Poquoson Islanders walking out with a win. Poquoson capitalized on three fumbles by the hosting Trojans en route to a 13-0 victory during the Sept. 3 Bay Rivers District football contest.
