Providence Forge man indicted on several charges, including attempted murder of a police officer
A Providence Forge man has been indicted on several felony charges including attempted murder of a police officer. As part of Monday morning in New Kent Circuit Court, a grand jury indicted Robert Wayles Watkins III, 54, of the 10000 block of White Dogwood Drive, was indicted on one charge each of attempted aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer, attempting to maim a law enforcement animal officer, felony eluding, felony destruction of property, misdemeanor destruction of property, misdemeanor violating a protective order, and misdemeanor assault and battery. A Newport News man has entered guilty pleas stemming from a high-speed pursuit in New Kent County. Devon Alexander Sabb, 32, of the 400 block of Cox Landing, pled guilty to one count each of felony eluding, misdemeanor reckless driving, and misdemeanor driving suspended as part of a plea agreement reached Monday afternoon n New Kent Circuit Court. Surry County shuts out Charles City in shortened football affair
Charles City High School’s football team used to have a long-standing rivalry against the Surry Cougars when both teams played in the same district. And while the match-up continues as non-district opponents, the battle has favored the Cougars for several years, including last Friday’s matchup. Trojans surrender first 26 points of game, falls to Tabb on gridiron
After two consecutive years in the playoffs, New Kent’s football team entered the Sept. 17 home contest against a Tabb Tigers team who were hungry for a win. But self-inflicted penalties by the Trojans early in the contest resulted in a deficit that the team could not make up. Tabb scored 26 first half points and New Kent could not close the gap as the visiting Tigers defeated the Trojans 26-14 in the Bay Rivers District affair. New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ field hockey team carried a three game winning streak as they knew that a Sept. 16 showdown against a Tabb Lady Tigers team that had not lost in 122 games would be a tough task. Early morning crash claims lives of two people in New Kent
Virginia State Police are currently investigating a crash that claimed the lives of two people early Friday morning. In a press release, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash westbound on Interstate 64 near mile marker 217 at approximately 1:02 a.m. A preliminary investigation indicates a 2023 GMCP pickup truck overturned and caught fire. The driver and passenger died at the scene. Troopers are working to confirm their identities and notify the next of kin. The crash remains under investigation.
