Marisa Bush pitched a perfect game, striking out 12 of the 15 batters she faced, as New Kent’s Lady Trojans rolled past Lafayette’s invading Rams 12-0 in Bay Rivers District softball.
Bush’s defense could relax last Friday as Lady Trojan fielders only had to glove a pair of infield grounders and one outfield fly. At the plate, meanwhile, she helped her own cause, going two-for-three with four RBI.
“She did a great job,” said Lady Trojan coach Nicole O’Bier. “I think she has definitely proven herself. She has stood her ground when she had to, and she’s become one of the top pitchers around.”
The hosts took a 3-0 first inning lead as singles from Dani Foster, Peyton Fleming, and Brittany LaPrade started the frame. Kristen Saunders doubled in one run and Bush followed with a two-run double.
Madison Beasley’s inside-the-park homer into the right field corner in the second inning upped the count to 4-0. Another run scored in the third as Saunders singled and scored on a Bush grounder.
Then the hosts broke open the affair with a seven-run fourth frame highlighted by Kendall Rowe’s RBI triple and a base-clearing, three run double off the bat of Karley Allen.
“I think we’re pumped and ready for the next two weeks,” O’Bier said looking to the district schedule ahead.
On successive Fridays starting tomorrow (April 26), the Lady Trojans have crucial encounters with Tabb, York, and a first place Smithfield team that handed 9-1 New Kent its only loss. All three games are at home.
