After falling behind 2-0 to powerful Jamestown midway through the first half, New Kent’s host Lady Trojan soccer team seemed to take the deficit as a wake-up call. For the next 12 minutes, the hosts dominated, applying pressure in the Eagle end of the field.

But the surge resulted in no goals and appeared to drain what energy the Lady Trojans had left in the first half of Thursday’s contest. Jamestown closed out the half with three goals to a take a 5-0 lead at the break on the way to an 8-0 final.

“We struggle when it comes to depth,” said Lady Trojan coach Cathy Anderson. “And because we have no depth, we get worn down. This is our third game this week.

“But we played well,” she added. “We did some very good things and we’re growing.”

Jamestown’s Bailey Cristian placed a header into the net off a Paige Majdic corner kick to open the scoring just over 11 minutes into the contest. Six minutes later, Lady Trojan keeper Chandler Dagenhart stopped an Eagle shot, one of her five saves on the night, but Aaliyah Little controlled the rebound to open a 2-0 lead.

Lady Trojan Sydney Griffith launched the hosts’ first shot of the game at the 20-minute mark. The ball sailed wide of the Eagle goal, but opened a 12-minute span during which New Kent’s offense took over the match.

But with less than nine minutes before halftime, the visitors cleared the ball out of their end of the field. Majdic then lofted a long-range shot over Dagenhart’s leaping save try to open a 3-0 advantage. The Eagles added two more goals over the final two minutes.

Jamestown’s eighth goal ended the affair with 17 minutes left in the second half, dropping New Kent to 3-2 on the season.
