Buccaneers complete spring season with successful wins

Buccaneer Award winners for this year are (l to r) Jacob Broz (seniors), Jamar Christian (juniors), Jay Poole (sophomores), and Khoen Christian (freshman). The award is given to the player who presents best sportsmanship at each level.

Bay Rivers Buccaneers football and cheerleading fielded four teams and a cheer squad during its successful season.

The Freshmen team (7-8 year olds) was coached by Wendell Christian and assisted by Sam Poole and Quincy Abercrombie. Players were Ellis Branch, Sam Lang, Khoen Christian, Ethan Bayens, John West, Brandon Nibbs, Landon Farries, Reese Poole, Jayden Abercrombie, Jackson Strickland, John Grinnan, Shane Brown, Taylor Bey and Jacob Schultz. Although the team went winless this season, the team mostly of first-year players improved every game.

The Sophomore team (9-10 year olds) was coached by Jeri Thornton and assisted by David Knorr, David Whitlow and John Holland. Players were CJ Highsmith, Caleb Stanley, Kelvin Shaw, Ryan Grey, Clinton Childers, Seth Bayens, Ian Nieto, Jay Poole, Logan Powell, Serenity Shaw, Joe Holland, Danny Grimes, Gavin Webb, Tyler Lacks, Jackson Taylor and Dakarai Knorr. The team finished 3-3 in the regular season and won a first round game.

The Junior team (11-12 year olds) was coached by Eric Thornton and assisted by John Grazioso, Tracy Porter, and Ty Flock. Players were Marlon Nibbs, Hayden Smith, Christian Martinez, Mason Adkins, Andrew Davenport, Connor Grazioso, Nathan Thornton, Avery Bell, Lance Alfonso, Blain Moker, Corey Stewart, Malikai Christian, Aaron Simmons, Ha’ji Jackson, Hudson White, Lawrence Porter, Jamar Christian, Joey Campbell, Andrew Rudisill, Alex Grey, Brayden Sheffer, Kevin Harris, Kyle Hinderliter and Nikolas Donathan. The team finished 2-4 in the regular season and was defeated in the first round of playoffs.

The Senior team (13-14 year olds) was coached by Mark Moker and assisted by Mike Branch, Larry Paffrath, Doug Smith, Carolos Wallace, and Richard Rudisill. Players were Knowledge Wallace, Brody Smith, Michael Burt, Millyon Mitchell, Richard Adkins, Tykil Shaw, Corey Ward, Wyatt Paffrath, Eric Wilkerson, Keandre Richards, Nysiem Shaw, Zach Morris, Aidan Smith, Dean Powell, Trey Rudisill, Greyson Webb, Jacob Broz, Jason Godbey, Garrick Edwards, JT Taylor and Jackson Paffrath. The team finished 3-3 in the regular season and barely missed making the playoffs.

The Cheer Squad was coached by Erin Rowe and Mattie Thornton. Cheerleaders were Amanda Rowe, Zoe Adkins, Sacara Bey, Maleah Morris, Savanna Holley and Grace Digiovanni.

All-league team players were for the Bay Rivers Buccaneers were Khoen Christian and Taylor Bey (Freshmen), Logan Powell and Tyler Lacks (Sophomores), Hudson White and Lawrence Porter (Juniors), and Garrick Edwards, Zach Morris, Michael Burt, and Greyson Webb (Seniors).
