Charles City third in Conference 42 track meet championships
Mason Jefferson won two individual events, as well as joined Charles City’s 4×100 meter relay team to help the Panthers to a third place finish at the Conference 42 championships on May 21.
Despite rainy conditions, Jefferson claimed the 100 and 200 meter dashes in times of 11.82 and 24.22, respectively. He joined teammates Kyle Jones, Jaquane Wyatt, and Walter Gordon in the 4×100 meter relay, running a time of 46.24 to win the event. Gordon was the other lone event winner, claiming the high jump at 5’10”.
Charles City’s boys accumulated 97 points, earning bronze at the championship meet. Middlesex scored 166 to win the event, followed by Mathews’ 158 points, Charles City, King & Queen’s 33, and West Point’s 27. Charles City girls did not score at the event. The Panthers will move onto the 1A East Regional Championships on May 28 at Sussex Central High School.
