Carlin, Kowal earn bronze at Group 3A state track championships
New Kent’s boys’ track and field team earned a 16th place finish in the Group 3A State Track & Field Championships last Saturday at Harrisonburg High School.
Trojan distance runner Andrew Carlin earned bronze in the boys’ 3200 meter run, running 9:47.80 in the event. He also finished fifth in the 1600 meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 4:32.14.
Griffin Kowal also earned a top three podium spot, clearing 14’0” in the pole vault to earn third place.
For the Lady Trojans, Taylor Stevens and Caitlin McClain earned seventh place finishes as New Kent finished 26th in state competition.
Stevens earned her medal in the girls’ pole vault, clearing a height of 8’6” while McClain’s toss of 114’11” in the girls’ discus earned honors in the event.
Bay Rivers District foe Lafayette won the women’s competition, while Nansemond River claimed the boys’ team title.
