New Kent continues to swim to success, improvement
New Kent High School’s swim team completed the 2015 season on a high note and continues to push that momentum into the month of February.
On Dec. 19, 14 team members attended the Hanover Hawks Holiday Invitational, with the team recording 23 season best times. The girls team placed seventh out of 16 teams (with only four scoring). Highlights of the scoring include two wins by Julianna Jones in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events, and teamed with Morgan Bowman, Meghan Coleson, and Zorey Sargent to earn second and fourth place finishes in the 200 -yard freestyle and medley relays. Jones set a team record in the 100 yard freestyle, as well as records with Coleson, Bowman, and Sargent to set records in the relays. Coleson also set team records in the 100-yard butterfly and backstroke.
The team will face regional competition on Feb. 12 before competing at the state level on Feb. 19.
