New tennis courts kind as Lady Trojans debut with win

New Kent’s Lady Trojan tennis team christened the high school’s new tennis courts with an 8-1 Thursday afternoon, season-opening victory over Essex, sweeping doubles and all but one singles match.

Dominique Palermo registered an 8-4 decision in number one singles. Other singles wins went to Torun Carlson (8-0), Tiffany Tolley (8-0), Vivian Sanchez (8-1), and Rachel Phelps (8-1). Reshyna Jadooram held a 5-1 advantage in number two singles before a sprained ankle forced her to default by injury.

In doubles, Kaitlyn Claytor/Kindred Grey (8-2), Samantha Emana/Hayley Ashford (8-4), and Teresa Hohman/Marley McCartney (8-5) recorded victories.
