Charles City’s Panthers had little trouble disposing of the King & Queen Tigers in an Oct. 21 football clash.

Mason Jefferson scored three touchdowns while teammates Kyle Jones and Craig Jones added two apiece as the hosts Panthers rolled to a 68-0 thumping of the Tigers.

Jefferson’s first score came less than a minute into the game, as he rushed for a 21-yard touchdown. Three minutes later, he connected with Kyle Jones on a 41-yard toss to give the hosts a 14-0 lead.

The first quarter onslaught continued within the next minute as senior safety Justin Thomas’ 41-yard fumble return pushed the lead to 20. Jefferson punched in another touchdown from nine yards out and the Panthers were up 28-0 just past the halfway mark of the first quarter.

Kyle Jones scored his second touchdown on the opening offensive play of the second quarter courtesy of a 41-yard end around handoff. Cecil Tyler and Craig Jones added runs of 44 and 2, respectively, to give Charles City a 52-0 lead heading into the intermission break. Jefferson’s 10-yard dash in the third quarter and Craig Jones’ 10-yard scamper in the fourth quarter accounted for the final scores of the night as the Panthers’ defense only allowed the Tigers to cross midfield once in the contest.

Charles City head coach Steward Greene commented about the contest, emphasizing that the team still has some growing to do.

“Tonight we overmatched our opponents, but we must clean up a lot of our mistakes,” said the victorious coach. “We had three offensive touchdowns called back in the first quarter due to penalties due to holding and blocks in the back when we didn’t have to do those things.

“Overall this effort was satisfactory, but we must turn up the intensity because these next two games will determine our playoff fate,” Greene concluded.

Charles City improves to 3-5 on the season.
