New Kent girls place 7th in 3A state swimming, diving

Led by Lexi Mills’ diving win and Julianna Jones’ runner-up finishes in two events, New Kent’s Lady Trojans placed seventh overall with 155 points in the state 3A swimming and diving championships that concluded Saturday in Richmond.

Mills won the one-meter diving title while Jones took second in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events with respective times of 52.0 and 1:52.84.

Zorey Sargent finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:10.59) and sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.17). Meghan Coleson placed 11th in the 100 butterfly (1:01.89) and 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:02.77). Morgan Bowman captured 15th in the 500 freestyle (5:46.85) and 16th in the 100 butterfly (1:05.15).

Jones, Sargent, Coleson, and Bowman combined for a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:52.84) and fifth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.28).

Riverside won the overall title in the 26-team event with 270 points.
