New Kent girls sixth, boys seventh at Charles City Invitational

New Kent’s Jacqueline Clardy-Josephs claimed the 3200-meter run as well as assisting her team to a third place finish in the girls’ 4×800 meter relay as the Lady Trojans finished sixth overall at the Charles City Invitational last Saturday.

Clardy-Josephs ran a time of 13:16.83 to win the 3200-meter run. Joining teammates Olivia Hobson, Jocelin Corrales, and Samantha Miller, the quartet ran 12:05.34 in the 4×800 meter relay to garner bronze recognition. Abby Spangler’s 15’5” leap in the long jump was enough to finish runner-up in the competition, while Raven Harris also claimed a top three spot with a distance of 32’7” in the triple jump.

The Lady Trojans accumulated 49.5 points, good for the team’s sixth place finish out of 20 teams. Charles City’s Lady Panthers did not score in the event. Thomas Dale claimed the female division with a score of 110.75

On the boys’ side, the Trojans 4×800 relay and 4×100 relay team finished second and third, respectively, on their way to a seventh place finish at the meet.

Yuri Frazier, Christian Lysek, Patrick Johnson, and Brian Stevenson posted a time of 8:57.49 in the 4×800 meter relay to finish runner-up in the race, finishing only behind Bay Rivers District rival Warhill. The team of Evan Branch, Joe Allen, C.J. Reeders, and Kyle Coles posted a season best of 45.37 in the 4×100 meter relay to finish third. The Trojans’ foursome edged out Charles City’s quartet of Cameron Vaden, Kyle Jones, Mason Jefferson, and Troy Crawley, who finished in fourth with a state qualifying time of 45.39. Coles also earned a silver medal by finishing second in the triple jump with a leap of 42’5”.

New Kent racked up 45 points for the seventh place finish, while host Charles City earned 16 for a 12th place finish. Meadowbrook claimed the boys’ division with 97 points.
