Field events dominated by Panthers en route to second place finish

Charles City garnered individual wins from Steven Crewe, Mason Jefferson, Kyle Jones, and Royal Washington en route to a second place finished at its home track meet on Mar. 30.

The Panthers claimed each of the jumping events at the six-team meet. Jones won the high jump with a clearance of 6’0”, automatically qualifying him for the Group 1A State Track & Field meet. Jefferson emerged on top of his competition with a leap of 18’10” in the long jump, while Crewe launched himself 39’4½” to win the triple jump. Washington claimed gold in the shot put with a heave of 39’11”, while Jones and Jefferson teamed with Robert Dobson and Troy Crawley to run a time of 45.34 to win the 4×100 meter relay.

The Panthers accumulated 128 points, good for second behind Walsingham’s 150. Mathews finished third with 72, followed by Richmond Christian (51), Banner Christian (25), and Grove Christian.

Charles City’s Lady Panthers put up 12 points, good enough for a fourth place finish at the competition. Walsingham cruised to victory with 223 points, followed by Mathews (142) and Grove Christian (14). Rounding up the scoring was Richmond Christian (11) and Banner Christian (2).
