Charles City scores eight points, finishes 18th at 1A state track and field championships

Charles City garnered scoring from Mason Jefferson in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes while the 4×100 team of Cameron Vaden, Kyle Jones, Robert Dobson, and Troy Crawley finished fifth to help the Panthers to an 18th place finish at the Group 1A State Track & Field Championships at East Rockingham High School June 2-3.

Jefferson ran a time of 11.64, good enough for a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash. He followed up that performance later in the day with an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.45. Vaden, Jones, Dobson, and Crawley ran a time of 44.67 to add four points to round out the scoring for Charles City.

The Panthers scored eight points in the meet, finishing in a four-way tie for 18th. Patrick Henry of Glade Spring won the meet with 101 points, followed by Covington’s 87 and Auburn’s 72. Auburn claimed the girls’ title with 100 points.
