Trojans score 11.5 points in 3A state championship track meet

New Kent’s Trojans accumulated 11.5 points, earning a 17th place finish at the Group 3A State Track & Field Championships June 2-June 3.

C.J. Reeders earned the highest finish for the Trojans, placing fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 44’4¾.” Will Tolley’s clearance of 12’6” in the pole vault placed him tied for fifth in the event, and Evan Branch’s time of 11.20 in the boys’ 100-meter dash resulted in a sixth-place finish.

Phoebus won the meet with 85 points, edging out runner-up Blacksburg who scored 83 points. Bay Rivers District foe Tabb earned the bronze with 45 points.

On the girls’ side, Raven Harris accounted for all six points as the Lady Trojans finished in 20th place.

Harris, a freshman making her first appearance at the state level, finished fourth in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 35’8”. She also scored points in the long jump, finishing in eight place with a leap of 16’5¼.”

Blacksburg earned the state title, scoring 90 points to earn the trophy. I.C. Norcom (83) and Phoebus (67) rounded out the scoring.
