New Kent’s Lady Trojans home finale against the visiting Warhill Lady Lions didn’t go as planned.

A solo goal within the opening moments of the contest was more than enough as Warhill defeated New Kent 4-0 during the Oct. 9 Senior Night contest.

The visitors wasted little time getting on the board, as Peaches Branscome found the back of the goal less than three minutes in. From there, the Lady Lions defense held the hosts at bay, prevented the Lady Trojans to get off a shot attempt in the first half.

Second half activity was a microcosm of the first, as Warhill’s speed offset any attacks by the hosts. Warhill also took advantage of penalty corners, outnumbering New Kent 19-1. Lady Lion Anna Hower’s penalty corner conversion upped the margin to two (2-0) for the guests. Two more late goals by Warhill accounted for the the final scoreboard total.

After the contest, Lady Trojan head coach Matt Duckworth talked about the tough loss.

“Warhill is a strong team,” he said. “They earned all their penalty corners tonight. We were really passive all night.”

Duckworth also commented about the contributions made by the six seniors to the program.

“I have always told them to apply the lesson they learned here to working hard and showing up no matter how hard things get,” the head coach added. “They have persevered no matter what the situation was. They showed dedication to their craft and have never quit on the team or themselves.”

New Kent concludes the regular season with a 6-10 record.
