New Kent boys win title, girls 2nd at 3A Regional championships

New Kent’s boys’ cross-country team came home as 3A Regional Champions after conquering Bells Mill Park on Nov. 1.

New Kent accumulated 42 points, edging out Bay Rivers District rival Tabb’s 48 to win the event. Another district rival, York, earned the bronze with a score of 64.

Patrick Johnson and Alan Walker led the charge for the Trojans, finishing back-to-back in third and fourth places with times of 17:23.03 and 17:49.22, respectively. Gabriel Bollhorst also finished in the top ten for New Kent, running a time of 18:08.40 to garner the eighth place spot. Rounding out the scoring for the Trojans were Yuri Frazier, who finished with a time of 18:31.21, and Evan Lipscomb, who trotted the course in 18:54.69.

New Kent’s Lady Trojans also had a successful meet, finishing as the group 3A Regional runner-up.

New Kent scored 40 points, finishing behind Tabb’s 29 points. Bay Rivers District rival York rounded out the top three with a total of 62 points.

Jacqueline Clardy-Joseph finished second overall at the meet, posting a time of 20:44.46. The Lady Trojans grouped themselves together to finish places eight through eleven. Pacing the way was Natasha Lange (22:39), Jocelin Corrales (23:18.76), Taneiya Matlock (23:20.64), and Taylor Clements (23:23.46)

Both the girls’ and boys’ team will participate in the Group 3A State Cross Country championships on Nov. 11.

Girls: 19. Grace Lysek 23:57.97. 22. Kaitlyn Ward 24:42.46.
