New Kent boys 10th, girls 11th at state meet

New Kent’s boys cross-country team finished in tenth place while the Lady Trojan team earned 11th place at the Group 3A State Cross-Country championships held at Great Meadow course on Nov. 11.

New Kent’s boys accumulated 236 points to earn the top ten finish. The Lady Trojans scored 291 points.

Patrick Johnson was the top Trojan runner, running a time of 16:55 at the event to finish in 25th place. Other place scores were Yuri Frazier (56th-17:50), Alan Walker (59th-17:53), Gabriel Bollhorst (77th-18:14), and Evan Lipscomb (81st-18:32).

In the girls event, Lady Trojan Jacqueline Clardy-Joseph ran a time of 20:32 to finish 34th at the state meet. Other scorers for New Kent were Natasha Lange (77th-22:44), Jocelin Corrales (81st-22:58), Taylor Clements (82nd-22:59), and Grace Lysek (85th-23:14).

Western Albermarle’s boys and girls teams swept the 3A state cross-country titles.

Boys: 88. Jordan Hathaway 18:43, 95. Augustine Gilbride 18:59.

Girls: 86. Kaitlyn Ward- 23:18, 87. Taneiya Matlock 23:32.
