A hat trick by Lady Trojan Taylor Clements provided more than enough offense as New Kent turned back the visiting West Point Lady Pointers 5-0 in the Mar. 29 contest.

Clements helped the hosts to a hot start, scoring two early goals in the contest. Moments later, teammate Grace Lysek converted on a penalty kick to give the hosts a 3-0 lead heading into the intermission break.

The second half continued to favor New Kent, as Lysek converted her second goal of the match early. A few minutes later, Clements scored her third goal, notching her third hat trick of the season and providing more than enough cushion for the Lady Trojans’ win.

New Kent head coach Steve Grech talked about his team’s ability to maintain focus and keep playing despite what the scoreboard displayed.

“I told them to keep playing and we had to keep playing hard despite what the score was,” he said. “We had to keep giving the same effort.

“The offense was hot today and did what I needed them to do to get us in a good position to win this game,” Grech continued. “We have a break coming up and we must stay focused going into our next game against a very good Lancaster team.”

New Kent’s record improves to 3-1 on the season.
