New Kent’s Lady Trojans entered the Apr. 12 Bay Rivers contest against Tabb on the momentum of two consecutive shutouts and scoring 13 goals. However, it was the visiting Lady Tigers who reversed both the fortunes and the script against the hosts.

Tabb’s fierce defense and offensive precision provided more than enough firepower to topple the Lady Trojans in an 8-0 game halted by the mercy rule.

Tabb controlled the pace from the opening whistle, pushing the ball into New Kent territory. Two early goals by Savannah Staples and an additional one by Abby Pebbles put the guest up 3-0 moments into the contest. Tabb continued their impressive ball quickness and speed, outhustling the Lady Trojans. Lady Tiger Michelle Sterling converted a hat trick, accounting for three of the final five goals in the game with her last one leading to the game’s conclusion.

New Kent head coach Steve Grech spoke about the team’s needs for future contest.

“Tonight, Tabb was in better soccer shape than we were,” he said. “They have played some really tough competition and that’s why their record is 2-2-2.

“However, we have to come out better than that,” Grech added. “When we only get one shot on goal in the entire game that was a serious shot of getting us points, that cannot happen.”

New Kent’s Lady Trojans fall to 4-2 on the season.
