New Kent’s Lady Trojans had no problem remaining undefeated as they toppled the visiting Warhill Lady Lions 11-1 in Tuesday afternoon’s contest.

The hosts received a great pitching effort from Gracie Ellis, who struck out five of the first nine batters she faced. Meanwhile, the Lady Trojan defense backing her up prevented any baserunners until the fourth inning.

On the offensive side, New Kent pushed four across the plate in the first and third frames and sandwiched a two-run second inning in between. Leading 10-1 in the sixth, New Kent pushed one more run across the plate to conclude the game by mercy rule.

After the contest, New Kent head coach Maria Bates talked about the early offensive output her team displayed.

“We jumped out early and we swung the bats early and often,” said the victorious head coach. “This is what you really want out of your team and make sure they are not looking ahead to anything and just focusing on this game.

“We have a real good opponent in Tabb on Friday who is undefeated like us,” Bates continued. “It will be our toughest task to date and we look forward to the challenge and it being a measuring stick for us.”
