Christian leaves college alma mater to become head coach at Siena College
After leading his college alma mater Mount St. Mary’s to two Northeast Conference tournament championships and one Northeast Conference regular season title, New Kent native Jamion Christian accepted a position to become the new men’s head basketball coach of Siena College in Albany.
The announcement came Wednesday (May 2) afternoon, with a formal press conference held at 4 p.m.
At Mount St. Mary’s, Christian compiled an overall record of 101-95 and a 67-39 conference record. This past year, the New Kent native led the Mountaineers to a 18-14 record, finishing second in the conference.
Christian is looking to around a Siena Saints program that compiled a record of 8-24 last year. During his press conference, the New Kent native said that he wants to make the basketball team competitive once again in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
“We have a lot to prove and we’re going to have a lot of fun earing it each and every day,” he said. “I am looking forward to bringing an exciting brand of basketball to the Capital Region.”
A benefit for Christian is that he inherits a program with no seniors, giving him the opportunity to implement his “mayhem” style of play to a core group.
Christian originally signed an extension last year with Mount St. Mary’s through 2027. Christian will leave his alma mater after six years at the helm.
