New Kent’s Lady Trojans entered Senior Night understanding they could salvage their season by winning the final three games to finish at 8-8. However, a matchup against a struggling York Lady Falcons team who have lost seven out of eight games didn’t go in favor for the hosts.

Powered by a host of freshmen, the visiting Falcons shut out New Kent 7-0 on Monday night, ending the home campaign for the Lady Trojans.

Similar to the previous four home games, New Kent struggled to score as opponents have combined for 20 goals. York continued that narrative, stifling the Lady Trojans with defense and attacking them on the opposite end of the field. York freshmen Anna Tomatore and Krista Anderson each scored two goals apiece, more than enough to take down the hosts.

After the contest, an unhappy Lady Trojan head coach Steve Grech tried to muster words to speak about the dismal performance.

“I feel like we played better in the second half,” he said. “However, we gave up five goals in the first half and really didn’t get much going.

“The offense is capable of playing better,” Grech added. “We just have to do it.”

New Kent drops to 5-9 on the season.
