The battle of the Lady Trojans in soccer action quickly turned into a one-sided affair for the hosts.

New Kent’s offense shouldered the load by scoring six goals, snapping a three-game skid and defeating visiting Essex 6-0.

New Kent held advantages over the one-win visitors on the pitch. New Kent’s Emma Grant scored two goals within the first 17 minutes of the comments. Teammate Taylor Clements also added two scores in the opening half and added a third goal in the second half, completing the hat trick. The hosts controlled the ball on their side of the field for a majority of the game, notching the win over Essex.

After the contest, New Kent head coach Steve Grech stayed grounded in his comments about preparing for the game.

“We pretended like this was Jamestown,” he said, giving his team a mental image of the Bay Rivers District foe. “We needed to come out and play had in this game to help us prepare for the last two games [of the regular season] and then the regional game here on May 25.

“If we had lost this game tonight, then we didn’t deserve to be in this league,” Grech added. “We missed some opportunities tonight and that must improve against better teams.”

New Kent moves to 6-9 on the season.
