Charles City boys, girls take fifth at district track meet

Charles City’s girls’ and boys’ track teams earned fifth place finishes, respectively, in the Tidewater District Championship meet that concluded Tuesday afternoon at West Point High School.

Charles City’s boys’ scored 37 total points to earn their finish. Middlesex won the meet with 165 points, followed by King William’s 103, West Point’s 92, and Mathews’ 74. King and Queen’s boys rounded out the scoring with 26.

Charles City’s boys’ 4×100 meter relay team of Cameron Vaden, Steven Williams Jr., Robert Dobson, and Jordan Cotman claimed the lone victory for the Panthers at the meet. The duo orchestrated a time of 44.53 to win the relay.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Panthers’ efforts helped to earn the team 29 points.

Middlesex claimed top billing with 155.5 points. West Point earned silver with 135 points and King William earned a top three finish with 81.5. Mathews came in four with 37 and King & Queen rounded out the scoring with seven points.

The team moves on to regional competition on May 24 at Sussex Central High School
