Trojans’ track team finish runner-up in 3A regional championship

After winning a majority of meets this year, New Kent’s boys’ track and field team were upset by Bay Rivers District foe Tabb at the Class 3A Region A meet Thursday inside their home stadium.

New Kent scored 130 points, settling for the runner-up position to the Tigers 141 points. Lakeland rounded out the top three with 111.75 points.
New Kent’s Patrick Johnson, C.J. Reeders, Will Tolley, and boys’ 4×100 meter relay teams all brought home first place finishes. Johnson won the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:43.38, while Tolley’s clearance of 14’0” won him the pole vault competition. Reeders won the boys’ triple jump with a leap of 45’3¾”, and the relay team orchestrated a time of 43.73 for the victory.

On the girls’ side, New Kent scored 69.5 points, good enough to finish in the top five. Tabb’s Lady Tigers duplicated their male counterpart’s feat by winning the meet with 131 points. They were followed I.C. Norcom’s 124.5, York’s 94, and Phoebus’ 85.
