New Kent’s Reeders wins triple jump at Group 3A state track meet
New Kent’s C.J. Reeders leaped 45’3” in the boys’ triple jump en route to winning the event at the Group 3A State Championships from June 1-3 at Harrisonburg High School.
Reeders’ win earned 10 points for the Trojans track team, helping the team finish ninth at the Group 3A State Championships with a total of 24.5 points.
New Kent’s 4×100 relay team of Reeders, Joe Allen, Julius Jacobs, and Evan Branch ran a season-best of 44.08 to earn a third-place finish. Mozay Kalo finished seventh in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 52.67. Teammate Michael Galting’s 40.76 in the 300-meter hurdles was good enough for a fifth-place finish, while his jump of 41’11” in the triple jump placed him seventh. Caleb Curry contributed a point to the team in the high jump with a clearance of 5’10” to finish eighth.
On the girls’ side, Lady Trojan Raven Harris accumulated all eight points for the team, helping them to a 20th place finish.
Harris earned a fourth-place finish in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 34’10” and a sixth-place finish in the girls’ long jump with a mark of 16’10¼”.
Broadway’s boys’ and E.C. Glass’ girls won the 3A state meets.
