New Kent sweeps York to celebrate Senior Night win
New Kent’s Lady Trojans got what they needed during a Tuesday night match-up against the visiting York Lady Falcons; a much needed win.
New Kent swept York 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 to claim a Senior Night victory in front of the home crowd.
The Lady Trojans won the first set capitalizing on mistakes made by the visitors. In the second set, both teams battled back and forth before kills by New Kent teammates Lindsey Johnson and Catherine Perrine swung momentum. With the score tied at 18 apiece in the second set, Perrine and teammate Raven Harris solidified the front line, combining for a double block to garner an advantage for the hosts that would not be relinquished in the set.
The third set started out closely contested, but the Lady Trojans once again took advantage of York miscues. The lack of discipline by the Lady Falcons resulted in the team’s impatience, allowing for New Kent to win the last set.
Lady Trojan head coach Cynthia Burnett praised her seniors on a night that honored them.
“The seniors played well tonight, and we want them to know that on this night as coaches that we loved coaching them,” she said. “It was an absolute pleasure coaching them during their careers.”
New Kent improves to 12-10 on the season.
