Charles City girls, boys finish third in home opening track meet

Charles City’s Cameron Vaden won two events as the Panthers finished in third place at its Mar. 13 home opening meet.

Vaden claimed victories in the boys’ high jump (5’0”) and the 200-meter dash (24.28) to help the Panthers earn 63 points to earn the bronze in the nine team meet. Mathews (140.5) and Banner Christian (67) finished ahead of the hosts, while teams finishing behind the Panthers were Essex (59), Walsingham Academy (41.5), Grove Christian (31), King & Queen (24), Stonebridge (20), and Richmond Christian.

On the girls’ side, the 4×100 relay team of Laina Brown, Skye Bradby, Alexis Williams, and Aysia Wallace claimed the team’s only first place win by accumulating a time of 56.64.

The Lady Panthers used a combination of consistent finishes to earn third place at the meet with a score of 49 points. Walsingham Academy ran away with a score of 170.33 to win the meet while Essex finished in second with 58. Finishing behind the hosts were Mathews (46.66), Richmond Christian (29), Banner Christian (22), Stonebridge (16), King & Queen (16), and Grove Christian (4).
