Quinton native Jamion Christian has left Siena College after one year to become the head basketball coach at George Washington University.

After spending a year and leading Siena College in New York to a 17-16 record and to second place in the MAAC, Christian will be moving closer to home after accepting the job at George Washington. Prior to his one-year tenure at Siena, Christian spent six years at his college alma mater, Mount St. Mary’s University, turning around that program and leading them to two NCAA Tournament appearances.

“I am honored to be able to return home to take a job I have dreamed of having since I was a child,” said Christian in a press release. “It was a difficult decision to leave Siena because I absolutely loved the people, but there were only a few jobs that could take me away, and I can’t wait to get to work in Foggy Bottom.”

Along with improving Siena by nine wins, he also guided guard Jalen Pickett at the MAAC Rookie of the Year and also to the All-MAAC first team. At Mount St. Mary’s University, he compiled a record of 101-95 over a six-year period. To date, Christian holds an overall record of 118-111 in seven years of coaching.

Christian is a 2000 graduate of New Kent High School where he guided the Trojans to the 2000 Group 1A State Championship. He was also named as the player-of-the-year and received a full scholarship to Mount St. Mary’s University.
