Lady Trojans take second at Charles City Invitational track meet

New Kent’s Lady Trojans had to settle for silver for the second week in a row at an invitational track meet.
New Kent accumulated 85 points, finishing a mere four points behind Meadowbrook (89) at Charles City’s Invitational track meet held Saturday. The Trojans edged Varina (84) and J.R. Tucker (82) to earn the trophy. The hosting Lady Panthers scored two points, good enough for a 14th place finish among 20 teams.
The Lady Trojans garnered their event victories in long distance running events. Magnolia Lang won the girls’ 1600-meter run with a time of 5:57.88, while teammate Jacqueline Clardy-Josephs took first in the girls’ 3200-meter run with a time of 12:25.09.
On the boys’ side, New Kent finished in the upper echelon of competition, scoring 45 points and earning a fifth-place finish at the invitational. Host Charles City scored one point to finish 18th in the competition.
New Kent’s C.J. Reeders began his defense of his Group 3A State triple jump crown by winning the event in Charles City with a leap of 44’0”. Teammate Patrick Johnson earned the other top spot for the Trojans, running to a time of 4:43.55 in the boys’ 1600-meter run.
