Even without a few starters, New Kent’s Lady Trojans continue to find ways to win. That was the case Friday afternoon.
Facing a winless Lafayette Lady Rams team, New Kent cruised to a 15-3 victory in the Bay Rivers District clash.
Haley Baker got things going for the hosts with a base hit, advancing teammate Taylor Yates around the bases. Amya Evans triple drove home both Taylor and Baker to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. K.B. Snyder and Alex Peace added additional runs and New Kent eventually built a 10-1 lead by the top of the third inning, more than enough to seal the win.
Lady Trojans head coach Maria Bates spoke about her team’s performance as they remained undefeated heading into Spring Break.
“The key was jumping out on them early,” said the victorious head coach. “Five runs in the first inning gave us some cushion.
“Lafayette came out and they had a lot of good hitters,” Bates continued. “We really picked it up and got on things early.”
