The old adage says, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” For New Kent’s Lady Trojans Monday night, they used a combination on both to throttle the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers.

Four goals by New Kent’s Taylor Clements were more than enough as hosts cruised to a 10-0 beatdown in the Bay Rivers’ affair.

Clements scored her first goal less than two minutes into the contest. Three minutes later, goal number two registered on the scoreboard. Teammate Grace Lysak picked up some of the scoring, sending one ball to the back of the net on a free kick. A minute later, teammate Mea Picone provided Lysak an assist for another point. Clements didn’t want to miss out on the action as her third with 27 minutes remaining quickly put New Kent up 5-0 in the contest.

Clements added number four on the scoreboard in the second half, while teammates Picone, Bella Focht, Maddy Heath, and Payton Melvin each contributed to a score as the hosts were never seriously challenged in the contest.

Lady Trojan Head Coach Steve Grech didn’t have any complaints after the game about his team’s big time scoring night.

“The way we played and the way we put the ball through the net is what I expected because I know what we can do,” he said. “Hopefully, we can bring this to Thursday’s game.

“We played Tabb last week and although I was not happy with the loss, I felt it was a good game and we progressed,” Grech continued. “The girls did very well today on both ends of the field for the entire time they were on the field.”

New Kent ups its record to 2-2 on the season.
