There are times when teams have to find ways to when tough games. When it comes to New Kent’s Lady Trojans softball, a consistency of defense along with overcoming bad plays has led to another victory for New Kent.

A combined no-hitter by Lady Trojan pitchers Gracie Ellis and Haley Hyndshaw along with a strong performance at the plate by New Kent helped the hosts ease to a 16-0 dismantling of Poquoson’s Lady Islanders on Apr. 16.

Taylor Yates home run in the second inning that cleared the left field wall added to New Kent’s massive lead, which had already grown to five before her blast. The hosts consistently connected with their bats, only striking out twice in the contest. Meanwhile, Ellis and Hyndshaw struck out seven batters to seal the win for New Kent.

Lady Trojan head coach Maria Bates talked about her team’s excellence on the field.

“It feels excellent that we had a great start to the week,” she said. “We have a huge game against Warhill next and today’s game really helped the girls’ confidence on the field.”
