New Kent girls place third, boys fourth at Bay Rivers District home track meet

New Kent’s Lady Trojan track team claimed the long jump and triple jump events on their way to a third-place finish at its Apr. 17 Bay Rivers District home meet.
Sacara Bey leaped to a career best 16’1” in the girls’ long jump, securing the top spot in the event. Teammate Raven Harris also accomplished a career best, notching her mark in the girls’ triple jump with a distance of 36’2” to win the event.
The Lady Trojans accumulated 109 points at the meet, finishing behind Jamestown (123.5) and Grafton (115). Rounding out the scoring were Tabb (94), Warhill (54.5), York (50), Lafayette (42), Bruton (36), Smithfield (26), and Poquoson (9).
On the boys’ side, senior Trojan C.J. Reeders emerged as a double-event winner as he helped New Kent to a fourth-place finish at the meet.
Reeders claimed both of the horizontal jumping events at the meet. He leaped 21’1” in the boys’ long jump, barely beating out teammate Evan Branch for the top spot. Reeders had little trouble in the boys’ triple jump, as the defending state champion garnered a mark of 44’8”, winning by more than two feet. Teammate Will Tolley emerged as the other lone event winner for the hosts, claiming the pole vault with a clearance of 12’6”.
Grafton’s boys secured first place at the meet, accumulating 167 points, followed by Tabb’s 123.33 and Jamestown’s 85. Finishing behind the hosting Trojans were Warhill (53.33), Smithfield (50), Lafayette (49), York (32.33), Bruton (14), and Poquoson (5).
