Williams runs state time in 100-meter dash; Charles City girls, boys finish fourth

Charles City’s Steven Williams Jr. ran a state qualifying time in the boys’ 100-meter dash as the hosting Panthers placed fourth at their May 9 home meet.

Williams finished third in the event and accumulated a time of 11.41, earning the automatic berth to the state meet at East Rockingham High School on May 31-June 1.

Charles City’s boys’ scored 43 points at their home meet, finishing behind eventual winner Lancaster (166), Middlesex (124), and Essex (79). The Panthers finished ahead of King and Queen (11) and Northumberland (0).

On the girls’ side, Laina Brown emerged as the lone event winner for the Lady Panthers as they also garnered a fourth-place finish at the meet. Brown ran a career best 18.31 in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles to win the event.

Charles City scored 53.5 points to earn their fourth-place finish. Leading the way in the girls’ division was Lancaster with 154.5 points, edging out Middlesex (153) for the top spot. Essex finished third with 73 points, While King & Queen (6) and Northumberland (0) finished behind the hosts.
