Brown hurdles to regional title; Lady Panthers finish in fifth at 1A Region A Championships

Laina Brown claimed the 100-meter hurdles title as all seven Charles City Lady Panthers track and field team members qualified for state competition at the Group 1A Region A championships held on May 23 at Sussex Central High School.

Brown ran a time of 18.22, winning the event to help the Lady Panthers to a fifth-place finish overall at the regional championships.

Charles City accumulated 37.5 points at the meet, finishing behind meet winner West Point (153), Lancaster (129.5), Middlesex (59), and Rappahannock (38). The Lady Panthers finished ahead of Surry (20), Northampton (16), Sussex Central (15), Essex (11), Windsor (9), and Mathews (3).

On the boys’ side, Cameron Vaden leaped a career best 41’1” to win the boys’ triple jump event.
The Panthers earned a 12th-place finish at the meet, scoring 14 points. Finishing in front of Charles City was meet winner Lancaster (117.5), Middlesex (50), Mathew (50), West Point (46.5), Rappahannock (46), Surry (40), Northampton (36), Windsor (34), Washington & Lee (29), Sussex Central (24), and Essex (18). Chincoteague tied the Panthers with 14 points, while Franklin finished behind with eight points.
