New Kent entered the Sept. 18 contest unblemished, looking to keep that streak alive as they hosted the visiting Warhill Lady Lions. Unfortunately for the hosting Lady Trojans, experience sided with the visitors in the Bay Rivers contest that brought New Kent’s winning streak to an end.

Warhill cruised by New Kent 5-0 to earn the victory to up their head-to-head matchup win streak to ten games.

Despite playing superb defense in the first half, the Lady Trojans found it equally difficult to score against Warhill. The Lady Lions’ pressure prevented the hosts from crossing midfield. Warhill’s Susannah Armstrong took advantage of this by scoring two first half goals, with the latter coming at the buzzer on a penalty corner to provide the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Armstrong completed the hat trick with her third score to kick off the second half. Teammate Emily Watkinson added two more of her own as Warhill overwhelmed New Kent to end the game.

Lady Trojan head coach Cristen Sickal commented on her team’s first defeat of the season.

“I told the girls that I was beyond proud up until the last 12 to 15 minutes,” she commented. “I think all that happened today honestly is that they had better endurance than we did.

“Our stick skills are just as good as theirs and our speed is just as good,” Sickal continued. “I definitely don’t think the score was reflective on how proud I am.”

New Kent’s record falls to 6-1 after their first defeat of the season.
