Johnson wins Group 3A Region A cross-country title
New Kent’s Patrick Johnson emerged as the winner at the the Group 3A Region A Boys’ Cross-Country Championships held Nov. 6 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.
Johnson accumulated a time of 16:32.05, beating Nate Jennings of Colonial Heights by more than three seconds. Other scorers for the Trojans were Colin Pierce (25th-19:06.78), Parker Hines (33rd-19:54.25), Daniel Meyer (34th-19:56.64), and Jack Porter (37th-20:07.49).
As a team, New Kent finished in fourth place at the regional track meet, trailing behind Bay River District rivals Tabb, Lafayette, and York.
On the girls’ side, Natasha Lange earned an eighth-place finish as New Kent’s Lady Trojans also finished fourth at the regional track meet.
Lange accumulated a time of 21:56.74 to earn her finish in the top ten. Other scorers for New Kent were Rosemarie Gilbride (12th-22:14.59), Magnolia Lang (18th-23:09.43), Charlotte Verdu (19th-23:12.80), and Ashley Verdu (20th-23:29.91).
Bay Rivers District rivals Tabb, York, and Lafayette finished first, second, and third respectively in the girls’ team competition.
