Three New Kent athletes notch state marks at Christopher Newport meet
Three New Kent athletes garnered automatic state qualifying times at the Christopher Newport University High School Winter Frolic Indoor Track Meet on Dec. 13-14 in Newport News.
Patrick Johnson ran a time of 4:37.79 in the boys’ 1600-meter run, earning him a spot in the state championship meet and finishing in 12th in the event out of 117 competitors.
On the girls’ side, Raven Harris earned state qualifying marks in both the long jump and triple jump events. She finished in seventh place in both events with leaps of 16’7½” and 35’6½” respectively. Amy Rudolph will also be making an appearance at the state level as she cleared the 8’0” mark in the pole vault, finishing 14th and hitting the automatic qualifying standard.
