New Kent High School swim team wins quad meet at Goochland

New Kent High School’s swim emerged as the winner in a quad meet held at Goochland YMCA on Jan. 18. The team defeated Goochland (175-145), Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot (262-13), and The New Community School (248-38).

Individual winners on the boys’ side are Kevin Kurek (200-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly), Logan Atkins (200-meter intermediate, 100-meter butterfly), Gavin Wetherington (50-meter freestyle, 500-meter freestyle), Ian Durkee (100-meter backstroke), and Adam Gray (100-meter breaststroke).

In the relay events, the team of Durkee, Atkins, Kurek, and Wetherington won the 200-meter medley relay. In the 200-meter freestyle, winners were Durkee, Baylor Wayman, Blake Newton, and Tucker Harris. In the 400-meter freestyle, the quartet of Gray, Kurek, Atkins, and Wetherington earned top honors.
