Charles City girls second at Northumberland meet; boys place third

Charles City High Schools’ girls’ indoor track and field team concluded the regular season with a second-place finish at the Northumberland Polar Bear Meet on Feb. 17.

On the girls’ side, lone Lady Panther Alexis Williams accumulated 18 points at the meet, finishing behind meet winner Mathews (26) and ahead of host Northumberland (15). Williams emerged as the winner of the girls’ long jump (15’4½”), triple jump (31’4½”), and shot (22’10”). She finished as runner-up in the girls’ 55-meter hurdles with a time of 11.12.

On the boys’ side, the Panthers earned 32 points, finishing in third place at the meet. Mathews scored 42 points to win the meet, while Northumberland finished in second with 35 points.

D’Angelo Smith won five events for the Panthers, claiming victories in the 55-meter dash (7.41), 300-meter dash (42.88), 55-meter hurdles (9.68), long jump (18’7½”), and triple jump (39’8”). Teammate Justin Post-Parada finished in second in the 55-meter dash (8.91), third in the 300-meter dash (50.12), and placed fourth in both the long jump (12’9½”) and shot (26’6”).
