Namesake visit

Kate Tweedy, the daughter of Penny Chenery Tweedy who owned the legendary racehorse Secretariat, visited Colonial Downs to see the turf course named for the horse’s namesake on July 1. Tweedy commented of her many visits to Virginia as she gave high praise to the facility as it prepares for the season. The New Kent horse racing track will see action beginning on July 19, with the highlight race being the New Kent County Virginia Derby scheduled for Aug. 31.
