An opportunity for New Kent’s Khoen Christian (4) to recover fumble comes up just short as Warhill’s Jaedyn McAdoo (5) scoops up the ball just in time.

A Sept. 16 road trip to take on the Warhill Lions provided New Kent High School’s football team an opportunity to improve on their undefeated record. Unfortunately for the visitors, what started out as a competitive game turned into a runaway by the Lions.

Warhill’s combination of an offensive attack and defensive prowess kept the Trojans from finding the scoreboard, leading to a 36-0 shutout in the Bay Rivers District contest.

After both teams went scoreless in the opening quarter, Warhill finally was able to put points on the board as the result of a safety on a blocked punt. When the hosts regained possession, Lions’ running back Deron Gordon was able to take a handoff down to the three-yard line. From there, Jaedyn McAdoo carried the pigskin in to give an 8-0 lead with 5:08 remaining in the second quarter. That score would remain the same as the teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.

In the third quarter, Warhill’s effort and a little bit of luck favored the hosts that would lead to the downfall of New Kent. After a long opening drive by the Lions, a fumble forced by New Kent’s defense saw the ball roll into the end zone. However, Warhill was able to recover the ball, resulting in a touchdown for a 14-0 lead. Five minutes later, McAdoo would trot into the end zone one more time to increase the lead to 20-0. Two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter by Warhill solidified the scoreboard and the win for the hosts over the Trojans.

New Kent drops to 2-1 on the season.
