New Kent strolls by I.C. Norcom in regional quarterfinal contest

New Kent Lady Trojans’ volleyball team’s road to the state tournament began with a visit from the Lady Greyhounds of I.C. Norcom on Nov. 3. So far, the team’s road had no bumps in it.

New Kent cruised 25-4, 25-0, 25-5 over the visitors from Portsmouth in the quarterfinals of the Group 3A Region A tournament.

New Kent quickly overwhelmed the visitors in the opening set. Clara Foster notched five aces in the opening frame to set the tone for the contest. In the second stanza, New Kent did not yield a single point to the visitors. In the third set, I.C. Norcom held a brief 3-2 lead before New Kent went on a 22-3 run to capture the match.

The Lady Trojans will host Bay Rivers District rival Tabb on Nov. 4 in the 3A Region A semifinal match.
